Spot on! Modern Illumination

We calligraphers love medieval illumination. Glorious times in scriptoriums, when beautiful manuscripts have been created with lines & pages of highly decorated letters and words. They remain to be inspirational for us as they have been through the decades for many artists and designers. Brilliant work has been created by graphic designers in the 1920s. Let this be inspiration for your new style of Modern Illumination!

Materials: water glass, tissue, tracing paper, pencil (H-2H), eraser, gouache(opaque white, jet black, your favourite colors), sketch-pad, some higher quality sheets of paper (like BFK Rives, Arches, Hahnemühle(145g – 250g)), palette, pointed brush (size 0-2), old brush for mixing
