Session II
A whole universe – the pointed brush
Experiment pointed brush -part I – there is a whole universe of using this exciting tool waiting for us.
To start it, we will use brush pens and try some formal brush lettering. Wonderful to play around for more traditional writing.
It´s a joy to use the brush pen for flowing letters with charming flourishings.
Experiment pointed brush – part II – after formal brush lettering it´s time to try the pointed brush.
Besides the broad edged nib, there is a whole new calligraphic world out there – try the pointed brush! We will be going through various exercises to explore the exciting possiblities we have with this new toy. From light and joyful to heavy and expressive letterforms.
More information: I often hear from calligraphers that they are focused on writing with pointed or broad-edged nib and have no experience with a pointed brush. I use both as I also do sign-painting and murals and I will encourage you to find out about the pointed brush – it´s an exciting tool and it will widen your calligraphic playground a lot. We will start with a more traditional brush lettering. It´s origins are in signpainting or in the copperplate letterfoms. We slowly use the brush for legible brush letters. We will use brushpens, various brands. From using a brush pen, we will move on to the origin – the pointed brush. And we will add speed to our writing. We will experiment with forms that become letters and will also work on composition and colour.
